Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search box is sent to the outside provider that operates the tool. That provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep a site-side log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or direct message as needed to answer it. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive basic technical details when a page loads, including:
- Page-view dates and times
- Visited pages and approximate time spent on them
- Referring site, when one is reported
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They and analytics services help produce combined traffic measures, such as popular pages and common exit points. Browser controls can block cookies, though doing so may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Operate, secure, and improve site performance
- Route a search request to the selected partner
- Measure which resources visitors use
- Find and correct technical faults
- Display advertising that may reflect inferred interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Mecklenburg County Criminal History does not host, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It explains how to reach MCSO, the North Carolina courts, the SBI, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a third-party record or consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. A partner's privacy terms, retention choices, and sharing rules apply to information submitted through its tool. Review that policy before running a query because we do not control those practices.
Links to Other Websites
Links lead to sheriff, court, state-agency, legal-aid, and outside search sites. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy controls. Check it before providing personal information.
An advertising provider may use its own systems to recognize activity across websites and select ads. We do not operate that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Limited information can reach:
- Advertising networks that serve site ads
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search partners chosen to process a query
- A government body when a valid legal demand requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices protect information in our control. No internet system can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. A verified report that a minor supplied data will be addressed by deleting it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable North Carolina and federal law may provide rights concerning personal data. North Carolina's Public Records Law, N.C.G.S. Chapter 132, governs government records, not data held by this private site. Subject to the law that applies, you may:
- Object to certain processing where a right to object applies
- Request deletion where the law provides it
- Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
- Request access to personal information in our control
Updates to This Policy
A revised policy will be posted here and identified by a new effective date. Continued use after posting is subject to the updated terms.
